OUR WORK IN SAINT LUCIA

The Minister of Gender Relations in Saint Lucia has said that violence against women is a “major challenge” and victims of domestic violence “suffer in isolation and silence.” The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force’s Domestic Abuse Manual states there is “secrecy and shame” surrounding the issue of domestic violence in Saint Lucia, so it is difficult to understand the full extent of the problem.

Women in Action, a group that raises awareness of violence against women, has said that the situation of domestic violence in Saint Lucia is further exacerbated by the severely depressed state of the economy, where victims are economically dependent on their abusers and reluctant to report them for abuse.

Sisters For Change is beginning a technical assistance programme in Saint Lucia in 2019.
